Kids love helping out in the kitchen and what child doesn’t love pizza? Try an alternative with this impressive yet easy calzone, a lovely recipe to make together at the weekend.

You can fill your calzone with whatever you like, so get creative or make a veggie special for non-meat eaters. Serve with a side salad to make sure you all get your five a day!

Calzone recipe

Ingredients:

  • 290g of pizza base mix (to serve two people, double for four) or make your own.
  • Filling of your choice: try salami, chorizo or ham for meat eaters, spinach, olives and tomatoes for veggies, or a combination of the two.
  • 1 jar of passata
  • Cheese of your choice: ricotta, cheddar and mozzarella are all tasty options!

Instructions:

  1. Start off by pre-heating your oven to 220°C, and lightly grease a baking tray with oil.
  2. Roll the dough out into two circles, around 20cm in diameter
  3. Spoon a layer of passata onto each base, leaving a border of around 1cm
  4. Put the filling of your choice on one half of the circle, then fold over and seal the edges with a little water.
  5. Bake for around twenty minutes
  6. Finish off with a little passata, sprinkle some parmesan cheese on the top, and add a bit of colour with a small handful of rocket when you serve, basil or cherry tomatoes. Delicious!
